What the scholarship provides

I think that outside of paying for college a scholarship provides a way out or an opportunity. not every student grows up with money for college some students students grow up living check to check. For some students it's about making it out and getting a chance to be successful. For other students it is hope that they can be something in life. I think it can also give students motivation to do what they are supposed to do. I think that a scholarship can be that extra push for a student who thinks going to college is impossible.

Relfection

List:

retake SAT
find more colleges with my degree
send out volleyball videos

Well I plan to take the SAT in June and then apply to the colleges I plan to get into. Academically I am just about where I need to be. The college I chose were right for me because they aren't Ginormous and huge but they aren't super small either. I don't want to go to a big school because I came from a little school. So that type of transition would be really hard for me. I want to go somewhere that I would be comfortable not too far away from home but not down the street from the house either.

Education and The value of a degree

I honestly feel like a degree means different things for different people. If you were born rich you don't need a degree because you already have wealth. if you come from a family that hardly sees a college degree its not about money it's about pride. These days if you aren't born rich you have to work hard to get wealth. These days you need a degree to dig a ditch or to bust a hole in a wall. You need a degree for everything unless you are rich. It helps you not only earn more money but it helps you it helps you to just get a decent job. I think that when you start to talk about how having a degree helps with your social status I don't think having a degree is going to be a huge factor in it. My dad didn't go college but he starting his own massage therapy business. My dad has been a massage therapist fro over 10 years and he doesn't have a degree. He has friends that went to college and became doctors and he has friends who aren't doing anything with their lives. It depends on the persona and the people they choose to be around.

As far as the US and the education system I think a lot of work needs to be done. I think we have become a dumb society we lowered the standards for students. There are schools that don't truly care about the students desires after high school. I think more schools need to take time to figure out what their students want. I don't care if the graduating class is 100 or 500 there should be some type of help offered to any student. There shouldn't be students saying they can't go to college because they don't have the money, because in today's society that is not true. I think that we are at a c- in the public school systems when it comes to opportunities. It isn't that we don't have them but no one is telling students about them or making it a big deal. Not every school is even giving opportunities, there are schools that don't have programs to prepare students for a future career and the schools with the programs don't always oversee or keep up with the programs. There are many schools with tremendous opportunities and they are becoming full with students who come in from schools that lacked the opportunities so it causes the schools with plenty of opportunities to sacrifice somethings. But this wouldn't be a problem if all the school did what they were supposed to do.

Spring break 2015

I plan to work all week long so that I can save some money up to buy some things that I really want. I may do a little bit driving and go out a little. I don't really have anything planned because I don't knot what my work schedule is going to be like. That is honestly all I have so far.

My view

1. The most influential person in my life would be Coach Thompson because he shown me the world from a different perspective. He has taught me many things as an athlete, student, and a person. He has been someone I can depend on.
2. I think we read poetry to understand the world from someone else's perspective. The beauty that someone else sees in something or just the beauty of the world. I think that we read poetry to understand the world.
3. Yes I agree that you have to see things from a different perspective. I think that it is very important to see the world in someone else's eyes. The one person to make me do that was Coach Thompson in history. He made me see that some emotion is by choice not force. Being upset is an option not natural. I never thought of it that way.
4. My verse would be "be bold for the world is watching". I would live by this because it is what you have to do. The world is a crazy place and you have to make the best of it. Live will be hard and rough but you have to be bold and stand up and fight because you don't know who is watching.

DPS questions

1. I think that Neil would have eventually committed suicide. I think that based on how his father treated him he would have went down a path of sorrow and depression. He may have turned to things like drugs and alcohol to cope with his emotions.
2. I think that the bravest boy was Nuwanda because he stood up for what he believed. I think that he may not have went about it in the best of ways. The coward of the group was probably Todd up until the end of the movie, Todd was afraid to speak among his peers so he definitely was afraid to stand up for what she believed in.
3.I think that Mr. Keating's put the book in Neil's room because he saw that Neil would make a great leader and he needed that extra push. I think that he wanted to teach them they didn't have to conform or have fear.

Theme of DPS

I think that in the movie there were many themes. Among these themes I think the one that stood out the most was the theme of individualism was the biggest theme seen in the movie. Throughout the film Keating’s was trying to teach the boys that they didn't have to conform to society but that they could stand up and be individuals. When he had them walk around at their own paste and the way they wanted he was showing them that they didn't have to be like everybody else that they could be unique. When he had them stand on top of his desk he was showing them that they can view things from a different perspective. That in itself was a form of individualism. These boys went to a school where everything was done by the book. For a teacher to tell them to do things out of the ordinary was not common. They were taught that to conform was not something they as individuals had to do. The best example of this is when Keating’s old Neil to try to show his father what he was passionate about. He was trying to show Neil that he didn't have to be what people wanted him to be. Throughout the film they try to show that these boys were trying to find themselves and in the process how to not conform to what people said they should be.

Mona Lisa questions

question 1

I think that the role of woman was to cook clean and raise children and that was how it was. Kathrine Watson believed that women should have a better role and shouldn't just be expected to iron her husbands pants and clean the bathroom everyday. But that was the way it was and that was how women were seen they more of objects than actual people. Katherine Watson believed that women were more than just a house keeper or stay at home mom.

question 2

Katherine Watson's teaching her students that they didn't have to conform to society that it was up to them to decide their future. When she went off in class with the pictures of the women in that. When she fills out the application for Joan to go to Yale. This was not very common during this time at this school. A professor pushing a student to not conform but to go to law school over getting married and having children right away.

Teaching style

I think that if this was the way of teaching in modern society there would be a lot of people who grew up to be bad people. Because for some kids school is their only escape from their home. The personal relationships they have with their teachers is what in a sense gives them the strength to keep going. IF they were only taught fact and not given any life tools to take with them beyond school how could we expect them to make it in the real world? also, having a connection with students outside of the education stand point is very important. I'm not saying it has to be a very deep connection but some type of personal connection. That is needed for students to feel comfortable and to be able to get the "facts" they need from school. The idea that the headmistress of Wellseley college was similar to the extract from Charles Dickens and it worked until she met someone who refused to conform to live the way she was told.

Theme

My favorite theme of the story was the idea of standing out. Miss Watson was very independent and refused to conform and she stood out because she didn't live by the same moral and rules as other girls did. These girls looked up to women that were housewives and typical women and that wasn't her. Yet she had probably the deepest impact on them.

Mona Lisa Smile

I think that some women in the movie will settle for what is expected. I think that some will stand up and change the way the women of this time live. I think that there will be some that surprise you and some that will do the expected. I think that Julian Roberts character is trying to get these women to see and understand that they do not have to conform to society. She wants them to open their eyes and see that they don't have to just be a housewife. Some are open to the idea others not so much.

High school vs. College

I think that college and high school exams are different in many ways. In high many teacher give a review or a study guide. Then they turn around and give multiple choice tests. This in a sense is spoon feeding the material to students. Students are no longer thinking on a higher level they are relying on memory. Students are reminded when they will be taking a test. If teachers don't give a review they most likely tell student what will be on the test. In college students are not always given a study guide it all depends on the professor. Therefore, students always know what to expect which presents a challenge. College students aren't reminded constantly of when they have a test sometimes they aren't reminded at all because they are given a course schedule. So if they don't keep up with course schedule then they may not even know when they have a test. So high school is much easier than college by a long shot.
